Strategic challenges

Matia Fundazioa has defined its new Strategic Vision with the aim of offering a response in accordance with the new needs of people in their ageing process.

All this in a context in which the population over 65 years of age is experiencing exponential growth and in which all studies point to the willingness of the elderly to continue in their homes and usual environment, even when they need support to do so.

One of the changes that is becoming more and more evident is that this group cannot be treated as a homogeneous whole. It is a group of people with different concerns, interests and needs, as happens in childhood, adolescence or adulthood.

Older people, of course, want to continue to live their own lives within the possibilities that progressive ageing allows, whether in their own home and usual environment or in a residential centre.

Care model

From this new perspective, the model of care for the elderly cannot be approached exclusively from a health perspective and an interdisciplinary, comprehensive, person-centred model based on the personalisation of services for users and their families is required. The focus of care and, therefore, of the organisation and care processes, is the person and their life project. Respect for their dignity, their rights, their preferences and the search for personal wellbeing are the essential values.

At Matia Fundazioa we have internalised this new way of approaching care for the elderly and, as a benchmark institution in the provision of social and health services to this group, we propose our own comprehensive and differential model, centred on the person and based on the personalisation of services for users and their families.

At Matia Fundazioa we have already begun to work on the definition and generation of new care services that enable people to remain in their homes and usual environment and, when this is not possible, on the development of alternative centres that allow them to live as if they were at home, respecting their tastes and preferences and promoting their autonomy and dignity. In short, it is a question of taking a further step towards the objective of approaching old age from the point of view of promoting the capabilities of the elderly.
