Spend a 'Blue Summer'

Summer is a time when we change our habits, it is sunny and the needs of the body change.

10 steps towards a 'Blue Summer':

  1. Liquids: 2 - 2.5 litres per day. Special care for bedridden, chronically ill and dependent people. Ageing causes a reduction in the sensation of thirst. You should drink without being thirsty.
  2. Sun: Half of all Spaniards get sunburned. No more than 15 minutes a day. If you are going to stay longer, you should use a sun protection cream (protection factor over 30) 30'before sunbathing, at home and on totally dry skin and then a moisturizing cream. The sun is basically necessary for osteoporosis (vitamin D).
  3. Food: Rich in fruit and salads and in blue fish, bonito and sardines.
  4. Travelling: Photocopy of medical report, reservation medicines.
  5. Driving vehicles: Do not drive at peak hours, or at night, or on poorly lit roads.
  6. Diarrhoea: Banal: Astringent diet + oral serum. 1 l. water + 4 soup spoons of sugar + 3-4 teaspoons of table salt + 1 spoonful of bicarbonate + 1 or 2 pieces of lemon.
  7. Venous insufficiency: Avoid the sun, tight belts or garters, hot water baths and crossed legs. It is best to walk on wet sand or on the shore. Always put your legs up when you rest.
  8. Active life: Exercise in the open air, avoiding the hottest hours, i.e. between 12:00 and 18:00.
  9. Heat: Watch out for people who take medication, because the lack of regulation of body temperature can cause problems and heat is even more risky, especially if there is humidity.
  10. Excessive sweating can cause cramps.
  11. Heat exhaustion: You feel weakness, fever, dizziness and lightheadedness. Just put the person in a cool place.
  12. Sunstroke: Loss of consciousness, it is necessary to go to the emergency room or call 112.
  13. Wasp stings: Do not press on the swelling so as not to introduce more venom into the blood. For 20 minutes, rub the affected area with a cotton wool with bicarbonate or with a deodorant containing aluminium (almost all have it).

The heat makes the bees and wasps more irritable, so do not get too close to their nests and combs. If you do, it is recommended that you withdraw with slow movements. They are attracted by the bright colours and fragrances of the flowers, which is why it is best not to walk around in flowering areas and not to use perfumes with non-aerosol hair essences.
